U.S. Live Cohort Applicant Criteria

Required (for All Applicants)

  • Be a person with lived experience of human trafficking and/or modern slavery. This includes experiences such as forced migration, domestic servitude, or sexual slavery.

**Please note, private or public identification are both respected**

  • Demonstrated interest in leadership in anti-trafficking work. Examples of anti-trafficking work include:

    • Direct services such as case management work, housing or legal services

    • Community or school awareness campaigns to combat exploitation

    • Leading survivor support programs 

    • Research or advocacy on trafficking-related issues 

    • Volunteerism, consulting, or organizing specifically focused on human trafficking or survivor leadership 

  • Basic computer skills and online learning skills, such as:

    •  Using email

    • Joining video calls

    • Creating and saving documents

    • Using chat functions

    • Downloading files

    • Comfortable navigating online learning platforms (for example: logging in with a password, clicking into lessons, watching videos, posting in discussion boards, etc.)


U.S. Live Cohort (open to applicants residing in the United States)

Experience: 

At least two years of experience working in anti-trafficking/anti-slavery, or closely aligned sectors such as gender-based violence, labor rights, migration and refugee support. This experience may come through roles like working for an NGO, community organizing, volunteering, or consulting.

Focus: 

A clear interest in systems change, including addressing root causes through policy, power shifts, equity-focused strategies.

Participant Expectations: 

  • English proficiency is required, but full fluency is not expected. To get the most out of the Academy, participants should be able to engage in conversations, follow materials, and contribute to discussions in English. While we are unable to provide full interpretation for all sessions at this time, some content will be translated. We recognize that our community represents many different languages, and we are committed to increasing language accessibility as the Academy grows. 

  • Willingness to apply new knowledge and skills within the anti-trafficking, slavery, and modern slavery sector. 

  • Active participation in peer-to-peer learning community through live monthly online sessions

Live sessions are held two Thursdays per month, each lasting two hours:

U.S. Cohort:

  • 4:00 PM - California

  • 5:00 PM - Colorado

  • 6:00 PM - Nebraska

  • 7:00 PM - New York
